The idea of a Global
Distance Learning Channel was born in a pub in Dublin in 1996.
Representatives of the Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company Utbildningradion, Radio Telefís Éireann RTE in Ireland and the Educational Broadcasting Corporation Teleac/NOT in the Netherlands, talked about a television course
as a co-production with the Educational
Film Center in
the U.S.A. The subject would be Europe since 1945 and its future.
Since telecourses played a role in distance learning and the co-production owuld
be a global matter Fred Fleisher of Utbildningsradion in Sweden and Chris Sonnemans
of Teleac/NOT in the Netherlands decided to start the Global Distance Learning Channel.
It should be a meeting palce for the co-producers and later for the users of telecourses.
From the start, many visitors of TGDLC asked questions about distance learning and
specific about online distance learning. The website offers information about
and links to a number of institutions that offer degree programs.
Visitors can also find information about several international educational television
co-productions that are made and many other telecourses that are available.
Multimedia play an important role in education, therefore TGDLC offers information
about educational CD-ROM's |
