In 1991 the first contacts were
made to start a discussion about the possibilities of working together to develop
a series of television programmes on the subject of world economy.
A contract was signed in July
1993 at MediaNet in Munich, Germany.
To share and to save costs ABC-Open
Learning(Australia), Utbildningsradion (Sweden), Teleac/NOT (the
Netherlands), EFC (U.S.A.) with financial support of the Annenberg/CPB project started in to co-produce a telecourse about world
economy.
Experts of the four countries
developed key concepts of the global economy. These key concepts were translated
into 26 case-studies of each about 7 minutes.
The description of the key-concepts and
case-studies you find
in another file.
The short documentaries were used
by each partner to produce its own version of the Global Economy. The Educational
Film Center produced an
American version
of 13 x 60 min., Teleac
made 13 x 45 min., ABC-Open Learning 13 x 30 min. and Utbildningsradion 10 x 30 min.
It turned out to be possible to
produce different televisionversions for different target-audiences by broadcasters.
But this way of co-production makes it possible for teachers to use the 26 case-studies
in their own way in the classroom.
