World Regional Geography

Based on the experience with Inside the Global Economy and again to share and to save costs ABC-Open Learning(Australia), Utbildningsradion (Sweden), TELEAC/NOT (the Netherlands), NHK(Japan), the CNDP (France), Cambridge Studios(U.S.A), with financial support of the Annenberg/CPB project started to co-produce a telecourse about World Regional Geography.

The first discussions about the co-production started in October 1993 and a contract was signed in July 1994 at MediaNet in Munich. Experts of the six countries developed 52 key concepts of the regional geography. These key concepts were translated into case-studies of each about 10 minutes. The small documentaries are used by each partner tor produce its own version of the World Regional Geography. ABC-Open Learning in Australia used the 52 case-studies to produce two television series of 13 x 30 min. each.
A World of Difference: Introduction to Human Geography and A Sense of Place: Introduction to Regional Geography.

NHK started to broadcast the series as 10 minute programmes, Cambridge Studios produced a telecourse of 26 x 30 min. and Utbildningsradion, TELEAC/NOT and CNDP produce different series.

The Power of Place is the title of the American version of the telecourse. This telecourse is 26 x 30 minutes and it differs a lot from the Australian version.
