Lie Detector Tests also known as Polygraph Test is the type of test that is mainly used in criminal trials and court proceedings to reveal the evidences. The concept behind this test is that lying is stressful and the purpose of this test is to measure and record the level of stress of the subject using the polygraph machine. Lie Detector Test is also referred as polygraph because the test involves consistent monitoring diverse physiological functions of the suspects, pulses, breathing, galvanic skin response and taking the prints of these responses on graph paper. The graph paper shows when the biological responses occurred in between the questioning session. - There are very few people who are able to control all their three physiological functions at once and hence their lie can be detected
Most of the critics of Lie Detector Test don’t believe in such examinations and they argue that:
- Many suspects of this test can easily hide the stress level even when they are aware that they are lying in the questioning session
- They believe that that is no effective way to detect and differentiate the stress level of the suspect that is generated during the test
Even courtrooms in many states doubt the dependability of the Lie Detector Test and hence the court refuses to the results for guaranteed. While there are many states that believe the results of this test during the time of trial, especially if the defendant and prosecution agrees prior to the examination that the results and the outcomes are admissible for them in the court.
