Human resource specialists work to manage a number of factors relating to company
personnel. These include occupational safety, health benefits, equal opportunity
employment standards, employee salary and wages, pensions and 401Ks, and family leave.
In human resources there are also specialties. Recruiting is one of these. Recruiters
maintain contact with professionals in a specific field, who they call when a position
is available. Recruiters also travel in order to build up a professional contact
base. They attend career fairs and complete outreach projects.
In order to break into the vast and expanding human resources field, you need a bachelor's
degree. Though this is a growing area, it is also a competitive one. Candidates who
are well educated and have people skills do well in human resources.
The salaries of human resource employeess vary considerably, since there are so many
specialized positions in this career. In 2004, the median yearly compensation for
employment, recruitment, and placement specialists was $41,190. The salary for managers
in this field was $52,800.
