Design your future with an INTERIOR DESIGN degree from one of these online or campus-based schools.

Are you creative? Do you understand the world and its spaces visually? Are you drawn to color, shape and light? Interior designers create beautiful and functional spaces in a variety of settings- such as homes, offices, and hotels.

Interior designers improve the aesthetic quality of spaces; they also enhance the functionality of a space and sometimes even the safety of that space. However, many people in this career focus on decorating. Interior designers can help improve the resale value of the space and attract new clientele.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that interior design is incredibly competitive. People without formal training and creativity stand little chance of breaking in. Those with natural talent and a degree have the best chance of starting a career as an interior designer. The Bureau of Labor Statistics recommends obtaining a bachelor's degree in order to be competitive. Approximately 250 institutions have degree programs in interior design and are accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

In 2004, the median earnings for interior designers were $40,670. Some interior designers were able to earn $72,000 that year. There is a wide range of salaries some based on commission and some based on salary. Many people in this career field are self-employed. Those with a degree in interior designcan earn competitive salaries.
