Accelerate your future with an
Oncampus NURSING degree.
There are over 2 million
registered nurses working in the United States today. Those with bachelor of science
degrees in nursing (BSN) earn more than those without, and those with BSNs are more
able to compete for jobs than those without.
BSN programs take about four years to complete at most colleges and universities.
There are almost 700 degree programs offering BSNs in the United States today. Those
with bachelor's or higher degrees in other fields can do accelerated BSN programs.
These programs take between 12 and 18 months to complete. Those in accelerated BSN
programs are on the 'fast track' to becoming highly skilled and competitive career
RNs.
Those with a BSN have more career advancement opportunities than those without. Administrative
positions require a bachelor's degree. A bachelor's degree is also a prerequisite
for admission into graduate school, and those with graduate degrees work at the top
of the health care industry. Those with graduate degrees can also teach at universities
and colleges and work in the four advanced nursing specialties. These specializations
are clinical nursing, anesthetic nursing, midwifery, and nurse practitioners.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, those with a bachelor's degree receive
more training in communication, leadership and critical thinking. A bachelor's degree
program also offers more clinical hours and experience in non-hospital settings.
This extra training and experience is invaluable to a practicing RN.
Nurses earned between $43,000 and $74,000 in 2004. Those with BSN degrees enjoyed
earnings at the top of this scale.
